Agentic AI and foundation models are creating new possibilities for how we work with bioimaging, biodata and preclinical research.

ABOUT the workshop

Agentic AI and foundation models

From supporting image analysis and programming to helping researchers explore data, develop workflows and connect specialised tools, agentic systems have the potential to make advanced computational methods more accessible and enable new forms of collaboration between domain experts and software specialists.

As these tools become part of scientific workflows, an important question is not simply what AI can automate, but how people and AI can work together effectively.

Together, we will look at where agentic tools are already creating value, where human expertise remains essential, and how we can shape useful and trustworthy ways of working with these technologies.

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop brings together researchers, imaging facilities, software specialists and industry from across the life sciences to explore these questions through practical experiences and shared discussion.

Stine Hasselholt – Aarhus Universitet (CFIN)
Associate Professor in quantitative neuroscience at the Center for Functionally Integrative Neuroscience, working with advanced microscopy of brain tissue.
Talk: The microscope user’s perspective on co-creation with AI agents.

Johanna Perens – Vibraint ApS – Virtual Brain Technologies
Co-founder & CTO. Biophysicist and image data scientist specializing in quantitative 3D brain imaging; developed the first multimodal mouse brain atlas integrating light-sheet microscopy and MRI.
Talk: How do I identify tasks where an agent can take work off my hands – without creating more work for me?

Boris Düdder – University of Copenhagen (DIKU)
Associate Professor and head of the Software Engineering & Formal Methods research group, researching formal methods and trustworthy distributed systems.
Talk: Caging agents with well-established software development techniques.

Jon Sporring – University of Copenhagen (DIKU)
Professor in Image Analysis, Computational Modelling and Geometry, with research in mathematical and medical image processing, including microscope and synchrotron images.
Exercise: Hands-on session on cooperative work with agents.
