Ole Lehrmann Madsen

I have a Master’s degree in computer science from Aarhus University in 1975, and I have a PhD in computer science from 1980 also from Aarhus University.

Since 1975 I have been employed at the Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University, as a professor since 1989. In 1984-85, I was a visiting senior research associate at Stanford University in California, and in 1994-95 I was senior staff engineer at Sun Microsystems Laboratories in Mountain View in California. I am currently director of the Alexandra Institute, however I am still associated to Aarhus University as professor.

Since 1973 I have worked with object-oriented programming. In cooperation with late Professor Kristen Nygaard, University of Oslo, Birger Møller-Pedersen, University of Oslo and Professor Bent Bruun Kristensen, University of Southern Denmark we developed the object-oriented programming language BETA. Kristen Nygaard was – together with late Ole-Johan Dahl – the originator of oriented-programming with the development of Simula in the 1960ies. The cooperation with Kristen Nygaard has largely formed the basis for object-oriented programming at Aarhus University where it has always been a well-established research area.
