Liselott focuses on digital technology usage in our physical surroundings.
She sees digital technology as an important tool for designing the urban space, because interactive design expands the possibilities for physical development, socializing and meeting people. She is always in close dialogue with customers and business partners in relation to the design, visualization and implementation of innovative urban space initiatives and interactive digital installations.
Liselott is fascinated by developing tools that appeal to the visitor’s senses by giving them an informative and easily accessible experience.
Liselott is an architect MAA from the Aarhus School of Architecture.
In recent years, technological advances have provided many new opportunities. At international level we see an increased use of digital devices in our environment, however only very few long-term initiatives have been launched to support and enhance the quality of the citizen’s everyday life.
In my opinion, digital technology is an important method for the design of urban space wheras the interactive design can help moving the boundaries for how we integrate physical exercise, socialization and meetings between people in the city. A digital layer may make data about the city accessible to citizens, policy makers and businesses.
With a degree from the Aarhus School of Architecture my focus is on the use of digital tools in the physical environment.
For several years, I have primarily been responsible for projects focusing on the urban space. Examples of the digital or physical initiatives include the interactive sound and light installation Nordlys, the purpose of which is to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere and bring new life to the inner city of Horsens. I have furthermore particated in the development of Denmark's first digital playground, PIXLpark in Roskilde, and the interactive benches in the project My Place, the aim of which is to bring life and strengthen the residents' joint sense of belonging to a neighbourhood of Copenhagen.
I have also participated in a number of exhibition projects - both as project manager and as the executive architect. One example is the new permanent exhibition On the Edge of War at Greve Museum and H2 Interaction which is an interactive exhibition with focus on energy. I have been responsible for the design of the spatial elements and exhibition strategy in the project Digital Natives in Aarhus Kunsthal and I also designed the physical modules as well as the concept for the mobile exhibition in The Energy Aware House, which could be seen several places in Denmark a few years ago.
My work focuses primarily on project management in creative hands-on projects, planning and implementation of workshops and processes involving citzens. I have broad experience in communication with customers and partners in relation to design, visualization and implementation of both temporary and permanent urban initiatives. I use tools such as Adobe - After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, the 3D programme Rhino and physical prototyping and sketching.
In our projects, we work primarily with public and private companies dealing with urban planning, citizens and urban design. In general, we see an increase in the use of digital tools for supporting new urban activities. Therefore, I am currently engaged in a number of different projects - large as well as small.
In cooperation with Citizens Services in Aarhus we have launched a project called The Digital Neighbourhood with focus on challenging and supporting new digital communication forms in the physical urban space. The project will proceed throughout 2015 and we will involve and engage citizens, stakeholders and students from many different disciplines in relation to creating exciting and relevant urban initiatives that can help to support the dialogue and the social meeting between citizens and municipality.
Furthermore, I see great potential a major project in Vesterbro in Copenhagen, in which we will cooperate with an architectural firm and the City of Copenhagen to support the urban renewal process in new ways. Here we will test how digital / physical measures can help to involve larger groups of citizens, and how these can serve as a catalyst for an otherwise long and somewhat complex process.
I frequently make presentations on how we believe the digital approach can help boost urban renewal processes and citizen participation and I am pleased to present inspiring examples of former projects.
Concurrently, we are working on an application the goal of which is to visualize and develop technical information to a wider audience in a simple and tactile way. As an architect, I am fascinated by how we can develop sensory tools that not only help visualizing and reproducing a spatial atmosphere of constructed works, but also of those works that were never materialized or which turned out differently from what the architect had imagined.

I find several books and movies very exciting and inspiring!
An ever lasting role model for people with interest in urban planning, is the Danish architect Jan Gehl. His focus lies in the use of urban space at eye level. Already at the beginning of my architecture study, I read the Danish book Livet mellem husene (Life Between Buildings), and it is a book that I often find myself referring to. Last year Gehl Architects also produced a movie that I find interesting in terms of setting the importance of urban life on the agenda – The Human Scale.
At the Interactive Spaces Lab we work with a visually inspiring book Digital by Design, in which the design and the artist group Troika shows 80 inspiring digital/physical projects made by artists such as Dunne & Raby, Ron Arad and Mashiko Kusahara.
